More Fly Fishing Accessories

post13_access2.jpg

Here are a couple of more accessories that can be useful when fly fishing.

Strike Indicators
This method of fly fishing can be helpful with the following.
  • Nymph fishing (when using a subsurface fly).
  • Detecting a strike.
  • Visual aid of your drift.
  • Reposition on leader to adjust for depth.
(This cannot be done with all styles of indicators.)

Using a strike indicator has some good benefits. But don't forget you still have to manage your fly line to get a good drift. This is important because the fly needs to drift in the current as natural as possible to fool a trout. A down side when using an indicator rig is that it can be a bit harder to cast. Also, when using subsurface flies, a fly fisher should first learn how to nymph fish without an indicator. This will greatly improve your nymph fishing skills.

Split Shot
Adding split shot to the leader/tippet will help in getting the fly down to the fish. The faster this happens during your drift the longer the fly is in the strike zone. Depending on how much split shot weight is added casting can be a little harder.
