Reject + Build

Entrepreneneurs/Intrapreneurs all share two characteristics: reject + build

1) They reject some status quo.
2) They build something better than or different from the status quo that they reject.

Donut (0,0) = person who accepts the status quo and does nothing at all.

Doer (0, 1..∞) = person who accepts the status quo and builds. This person can be very valuable assuming that the status quo should be preserved.

Dissenter (1,0)= person who rejects the status quo but doesn't build anything. Information theory suggests that just by dissenting, they add value to the system.

Developer (1,1..∞) = person who rejects some status quo and builds something better or different.

This last person is an entrepreneur or an intrapreneur. Within this category, Clayton Christensen posits three types. The evolutionary innovator who makes incremental, small changes; changes the market might expect. The revolutionary innovator who makes changes that are unexpected; changes that surprise the market. Both of these fit in Christensen's category of Sustaining innovation; the market remains essentially the same. The disruptive innovator creates a new market and value network; this change eventually disrupts an existing market.

What status quo do you reject? What's something that you care about making even better than it is? It could be something as small as the way a keyboard works. It could be something as large as climate change.

What are you going to build to make this happen?
