I hear so much talk of one-way and two-way doors in business. I use these terms every day at work. But today I realized I never think about them applied to life. This is the place where they are more applicable. In business, even if you go through a one-way door and things go bad you still have choices. Start a new company, launch a new product, and find a new employer. In life, one-way doors are much more impactful.

This is a challenge to myself and to all. Let’s start treating decisions in our lives as seriously as we do the decisions at work. Even more serious. These are the decisions that matter. Make sure you understand what the one-way doors are. And make sure you know the risks. Treat them as if your life depended on them, because it may. There will always be more work but there won’t always be more life. So focus on the things in life.
