Scratchpad Scribbles: They Don't Make 'Em Like They Used To

My grandpa had a life devoted to quality work. He spent his career working with his hands and demanded a high standard from himself. When he needed something he would as often as possible make it himself. This ensured it would be durable and up to standards. Sadly, this is not the case for most individuals or companies. The mandate today is fast and cheap, quality be damned. Things breaking down is the norm. We even created a term for it, planned obsolescence.

Just because the world is focused on making junk. Delivering stuff with quick payoffs. But that doesn’t mean we have to be. We can choose to do quality work. And appreciate craftsmanship. Whatever your sphere or vertical you can choose to elevate your work. Challenge yourself to hold a standard of quality, even if no one else does.
