Fear as part of a Weather System

Over the past few months I've been deep diving into the topic of fear. Part of my fascination comes from trying to solve my own issues connected to it, and part of it comes from the apparent shroud of taboo around fear.

People feel uncomfortable talking about their fears and uncertainties even though we all experience it every day. Hardwired by our brain to avoid pain, we tend to simply ignore those feelings or, worse, overrule it by mental carpet bombing your brain with positive thoughts.

Chatting with a counselor on this topic, she pointed out that we tend to label our emotions: positive ones are okay, negative are bad. While the reality is that emotions just are.
In that way fear acts as a part of a weather system: sometimes it's sunny, other times it rains. Rain is not great to walk through, however it is needed to grow everything else. Just like we can't control or change the weather, we can't switch off feelings of fear or uncertainty.

And even though we can move to a different location that is more sunny, i.e. move to a more positive environment, rain would still also be there. And not only that, similar to rain serving a purpose, those feelings of fear or uncertainty serve a positive purpose as well. Fear can trigger or heighten our responses, uncertainty can make you question and ignite more research exposing critical dangers moving forward.
But maybe, if you are consistently experiencing rainfall, and consequently are drowning in these feelings, you might want to seek some help to relocate to an area  of a more sunnier disposition.
