Did you know that superstar and all-around funny man Jim Carrey used to be homeless? In this video he talks about the decision of his dad to choose for a stable career as accountant in order to provide for his family only to see it turn to custard after he was laid off at the age of 51.
This brought about some heavy times for the family, but also the realization to Jim that if he was to make the choice between doing what he loved or compromising in favor of (financial) stability, he'd choose doing what he loved. He set out an challenging goal (wrote a $10 million cheque) to be achieved in 5 years and off he went. Of course, we now know what happened with that fundamental choice, but I found the principle quite refreshing. After all, if you are truly doing what you love, and it fails, how bad could it be? At least, you did something you love!
