TV reviews: Bosch, Snowpiercer, Loki, Snabba Cash, and The Good Fight
Bored of what you have been watching on TV? Here's a few TV recommendations for you!
Bosch (Amazon Prime): Titus Welliver is one of those actors that you know from movies/series but delivers as side character. However, with detective series Bosch he gets his moment in the sun and boy, does he make the most of it. He truly shines in the role of grumpy, off-beat detective hell bent on catching criminals. The show is based on the books of Michael Connolly so there's a lot of material to work with, evidenced by 7 seasons up to this point. Great show if you like detective/murder mysteries and political dynamics to boot. Recommended!
Snowpiercer Season 1 (Netflix): The series based on the movie which was based on the books. Exactly. One train with 1001 cars (see what they did there) travels around the globe to stay alive in unlivable, icy world (-120 celsius degrees outside). The train is an example of our current society with poor, middle, and rich classes. Similar to our own society, the poor class revolts to make things more equal. Not really a great season 1, but entertaining none the less.
Loki (Disney+): Another wild attempt from Disney to milk the Marvel franchise dry. You can tell that Tom Hiddleston had a great time revisiting the role of lovable bad guy and he shines throughout. To be fair, the developers of the series are not afraid to mix things up but in the end it is still a whole lot of messing around with timelines and alternate realities to make a story stick. All in all, you get exactly what you expected: a well-produced show with the characters you know with the additional funny deviation before we get right back to where we were.
Snabba Cash (Netflix): The series based on the movie which was based on the books. *Hey! There's a pattern going on here!* The books of Jens Lapidus are actually great, if you're looking for a great read. The series is a raw take on the Swedish criminal underground scene. Overall, the acting is solid and the script is good with some bold choices in the end. Dark, gritty crime show that shows the effects of the crime and choices on everyone involved. Recommended!
The Good Fight (Paramount+, AppleTV): The series based on another series. So, different! One of the real guilty pleasures for me, this series centers around an all female law firm (at least at board level) and knows exactly how to deliver the right mix of societal awareness, law suits, and funniness that make for a great guilty pleasure. Now in its fifth season an established series in its own right. I love this show!
