TV reviews: Resident Alien, Shameless, Search Party, etc.
Looking for a new TV show to follow but need that first refinement sorted? I got you! Here's some of the TV series I saw last week and why you should/should not watch them: Search Party: If you have never seen this show, you really should. This comedy/crime show is a fresh take, has great actors, and clever writing. Each season has its own genre but the quality remains the same: excellent. If you enjoy quirky, smart comedy shows, then check this out!
Dix pour cent: This French TV show has been acquired by Netflix and revolves around a talent agency and its agents. As they coach and manage their demanding clients they struggle to keep their heads above water. Light comedy and drama ensues. Ideal if you want something lighthearted, or a show you can easily binge watch while doing something else at the same time. Providing your French is okay of course.
Unforgotten: Excellent British crime drama series that centers around cold cases. Main detectives and cast standouts Cassie Stuart (Nicola Walker) and Sunil Khan (Sanjeev Bhaskar) wrestle each season with a cold case and its influence on their personal lives. A great TV show (IMDB: 8.3) and what's even better, it has 4 seasons to date. Binge away!
Resident Alien: Comedy series based on a comic book series that tells the story of an alien crash landing on earth. Sent on a mission to destroy earth, but forced to interact with them, he starts to soften up to mankind. Deliberately pitched as an odd-ball sort of show, the series hovers between sci-fi and comedy. Not the best ever, but good enough.
Shameless (US): Usually when US broadcasters remake a British TV show, it ends up in disappointment. There are exceptions however. The Office jumps to mind, but Shameless also makes for a great contender. This brutal tv show around the most dysfunctional family known to mankind came to a close this year with their 11th season (!). Unfortunately, this last season was a total drag and brought shame (all the pun intended) to an otherwise great tv show. Shame, shame.
