I’ve just finished reading leviathan falls. It ends the expanse book series, I can’t properly review the book without giving away spoilers, but what I will say, this has been a most satisfying sci fi series to read through. Each book has delivered on a pacy story. The finale manages to hold up expectations built up over a decade, and there are threads left hanging that would be interesting to pull on, in the future.
It’s been a deeply human series, with a bias towards optimism, and in todays world I think we can all do with a bit more of that bias.
One thing about this series that is perhaps subtle is the very low profile of artificial intelligence. There is no crisis presented around what it means to be human in that context. Given that this is the big current trend in technology, I realise that it’s refreshing that it played almost no role in this book series which focuses on entirely different questions about the nature of humanity.
