Notes on four ideas - Paul Kedrosky - Jan 5th edition.

#kedrosky #trends

I subscribe to the weekly newsletter from Paul Ketrosky - https://paulkedrosky.com/). He has built a system to scan a lot of news sources and pull out what he classifies as important trends in the news over the previous seven days (he has a daily feed for paid subscribers).

It’s possible to just look at them as static facts, but this year I want to see if I can make my own interpretation of what these news items are pointing to, so I’m going to start blogging my view on what trends I think I see in these news items. While my comments will be brief, what I hope will emerge over the year is a pattern of meta-trend.

So my view on the January 5th edition is that it is telling us:

  • Market investment and growth indicators are positive for 2025.
  • Customisation and niche product development are being enabled through AI - insurance, data analysis, holidays. This means there is untapped potential, but I don’t know what the cost of acquisitions is. Also, it means customer expectations will normalise around this.
  • Structural inequality in US healthcare. We know this, but the signal here is that this remains the case.
