They create a network to connect experts with those who need access to that expertise. I love this idea. I've worked on a few ideas like this in the past - Nature Network had some elements to it, we kicked some ideas like this around when I was at SAGE, it's a great idea. It also seems like it makes sense for this to be a standalone company, but I wonder if any publishers do this as well?
I heard a story from O'Reilly - who have a hugely influential network of technologists, that often they would get asked to provide access to experts, but not for highly technical issues. No, rather very senior financial folk would be asked to cover new trends in technology, but they didn't know anything about it, and they were willing to pay a lot of money for access to experts, so that they could keep their conversations private, so that they didn't havre to expose their ignorance.
