Three pieces of general news

Google have developed an AI scientist -  https://research.google/blog/accelerating-scientific-breakthroughs-with-an-ai-co-scientist/. Doing research is one thing, but the path from research to impact is tortuous and long winded, so we should expect many of these kinds of systems to focus around drug discovery. I still can't quite get my head around what this means in general for the "doing of science", but we can't ignore these things.

The Open Source for Science Fund has launched - this is important - https://os4science.org/. Snappy URL too. tl;dr a pool of funders to support open source software for science. I wonder if they will need to take a stance on agentic contributions to code bases?

JOSS seeks new EIC - https://joss.theoj.org/. I remember when it launched! https://blog.joss.theoj.org/2026/05/call-for-editor-in-chief. Well done Arfon!
