Having to use PowerPoint is one of the worst parts of my job. It's terrible, buggy interface and outdated use patterns force layout and design into your workflow—even when all you want to do is focus on the story. But consultants have been using PowerPoint since their first internships. It's the only tool they (we) know how to use. When all you have is a hammer, everything is a nail. So, much like Excel, we use it to solve all kinds of problems, even those it's not particularly well-suited to solve.
That's why I'm excited by this—it might be the backwards-compatible innovation we need. The truly-fresh thinking that provides more mental space for storytelling, that still preserves the slide decks that everyone is afraid to move past.
🎹 Keith Jarrett's world-famous Köln Concert: Here's a little more on the best-selling piano album of all-time. The Bremen Concert is a much less well-known concert he gave a week after his Köln concert. Many say that performance was every bit of a creative force as his original concert in Köln.
