I wouldn't be quick to say I'm an idea guy. Especially a visionary - that term has been fantasized too much for me. But, there's so much I want to do. So many dreams, ideas, and projects. But they've been there for years, just sitting. And the stack keeps growing. Does that make me an idea guy?
To me, it feels like that's an earned title. It's earned by actually implementing at least some of your ideas. Consider someone who continually points out the things that need fixing and improving, but they never put the hammer to the nail. I wouldn't call them a problem solver, even if they came up with solution. They didn't actually implement the solution!
Over the years I've found an easier-said-than-done remedy for this. Decide to act. It really does work for me. For example, my brother and I had the idea of taking the famous cat jam meme and letting you match it to any tempo. We had that idea for at least 4 years. Last year, we decided we wanted to make it a real thing. So I opened my calendar, scrolled down two weeks, and made an event titled "Release Cat Jammer." We bought catjammer.com and got to work.
We didn't hit the deadline, but we did go live a few days after! It was a silly project. There's not one bit of polish to it. But we did it. Perhaps this is how you become an idea guy, or the mythical visionary.
