New UK EHS & HR Laws in February 2025

Legal Register

Twenty one (21) new UK EHS & HR laws came into force in February 2025. With a further 32 coming into force later in 2025.

One new Act, the Water (Special Measures) Act 2025 5, came into force on the 24th February.

Notable amongst the new safety Regulations is the Online Safety Act 2023 (Category 1, Category 2A and Category 2B Threshold Conditions) Regulations 2025.

New environmental regulations includes the Sea Fisheries (Amendment) (England) Regulations 2025 92 and Greenhouse Gas Emissions Trading Scheme (Amendment) Order 2025 100.

Water (Special Measures) Act 2025

Aims to enhance the regulatory framework governing water companies in the UK, focusing on environmental protection and accountability. It empowers regulators to take decisive action against companies that pollute water bodies and fail to meet customer expectations. The Act introduces stricter penalties for non-compliance, including the potential for imprisonment of executives, and bans bonuses for those who do not uphold environmental standards.
