I always come back to  Notes

N.jpg

For some reason I always tend to try new apps or workflows. I’m not sure if it’s my constant feeling that I need to “optimize” everything or maybe it’s “shiny new object syndrome”—whatever it is, it happens more often than I’d like to admit.

Recently that was jumping into Obsidian. I’ve long heard how great it was, but I’ve also been using  Notes for so long and am reminded of this meme. “Hey, I’m on the ‘genius’ end of the bell curve because I use Apple Notes” I think… but then I decide to try another tool.

Obsidian is great and has all the back linking and other cool options. Everything is all ultimately markdown as well, which is nice. I created a couple vaults for different areas of my life and used it for about a month… until I didn’t. I moved back to  Notes again recently. I think there are a few reasons, which include its simplicity and speed, the syncing is better and quicker (in my testing), and it’s integrated with everything (since I have too many  products and everything talks to each other). I do miss the back linking and that was one of the main reasons for trying it out in the first place.  Notes has linking, but not automatic back linking. I guess for now I’ll just have to deal with that, though. I’m sure they’ll add back linking… right?…

This brings me back to the meme. Maybe I wasn’t on the “genius” side of the bell curve before, but I’ve now moved in that direction… Probably not, though. I’m sure I’ll continue to try new (or “new to me”) things—not just note-taking apps, but in general—constantly moving from the low IQ side to middle IQ to high IQ while really probably going right back to low IQ yet again when I decide to try something else!
