Is every ISP horrible?

October 20, 2022

Every ISP (Internet Service Provider) we’ve had—or tried to have—has always been horrible. Do ALL internet providers suck?

Currently we have Xfinity, but they don’t offer fiber internet to residential customers. So, we’re trying to get AT&T to come hook up fiber, since they’re the ONLY option for fiber in our neighborhood. We’ve now been “trying” for over two months!

I won’t put all the details here, because that’d be way too much to type and will bring back even more anger for me in the process. The shortened version is basically that AT&T needs an outside company to do the work of putting fiber underground in our front yard. Several times (maybe 10 times) they’ve scheduled for a tech to come do the full install, only to have that appointment canceled or the tech arrives (at least AT&T says a tech came) and realize they can’t do the work yet. I’ve even clarified the full situation every single time we’re setting up for a tech to come out, to try to make sure they’re actually “ready” for a tech to come out.

Here we are, over two months from when the install was originally supposed to be completed… still not hooked up.

I would’ve given up long ago from all the BS we’ve been going through with AT&T, but as I mentioned above, sadly they’re the ONLY option we have for fiber. I’m about to give up anyway—maybe we really don’t need fiber. Copper has been fine so far, I guess.

Same-day update: I guess it just took me writing down my complaints for everything to come together. AT&T came today and hooked up our fiber internet. Now 🤞 that everything runs smoothly going forward!
