Woods World (Oct. 1 to Oct. 7)

Do you like historical fiction shows? If so, you should definitely give The Gilded Age a watch before the second season comes out at the end of the month. This HBO drama, created and written by Julian Fellowes (who also wrote and produced Downton Abbey), takes place in New York in the late 1800s. It has amazing architecture, stunning costumes, a talented cast and smart dialogue. Definitely catch up now if you haven't seen season one.

Because the answer is always dessert. This simple and delicious olive oil cake from the New York Times is a must-bake. It's light, lemony and (pardon me for using the worst word here) moist. I even made this without eggs, using my trusty Bob's Red Mill Egg Replacer. *Consider this a bonus recommendation for anyone who has an egg allergy.

Do you sleep hot, cold or somewhere in-between? Whether you share a bed with someone who is frequently on fire while you're a human icicle, or you experience delightful flashes of heat in the night, the BedJet is the solution you are looking for. This cooling and heating system can be used with any bed or mattress, providing the perfect temperature for your sleeping comfort. You can even use two units in the same bed, putting an end to temperature wars. Living in a hot climate, it's been a lifesaver. And I imagine (if I still lived somewhere cold!) that pre-heating my bed in winter would feel exceptional, too. One last thing - you can even set biorhythms, which allow you to personalize your temperature throughout the night if you are cooler at times and hotter at others.

And if you really, really like historical fiction, you should absolutely read Rules of Civility by Amor Towles. I chose this book years ago for my book club and it was, hands down, one of my favorite reads for years. It's about a young woman in New York City after the Depression, who unexpectedly finds herself in high society. I loved his characters, witty dialogue and writing style, and found it impossible to put down. If you enjoyed The Great Gatsby, you can definitely draw some thematic parallels (but if you didn't, don't let that stop you from giving this a read).
