Battle allergies or sinus problems? Maybe you’ve tried a Neti pot or even one of the battery-operated sinus cleansing solutions. The Naväge nasal irrigation system is a game-changer. While other nose cleaners push saline through your nose, this one pulls. (As they say, it’s the difference between a broom and a vacuum.) It uses a premixed saline solution so all you have to do is add (distilled) water. It’s gross no matter which way you look at it, but it works. Looking for a simple weeknight dinner? This baked pesto chicken breast is one of the most requested dinners in our house. It’s chicken, tomatoes, pesto, mozzarella and Parmesan (just five ingredients) and takes under 30 minutes to make. Get the recipe from Skinnytaste.
What you should be reading … “God Spare the Girls” by Kelsey McKinney. I knew Kelsey’s writing from both X (or those who still say Twitter) and Deadspin and was eager to give her well-reviewed debut novel a read. It’s about two sisters in northern Texas who discover an unsettling secret about their father, the head pastor of an evangelical megachurch. This discovery changes their lives and causes them to question everything they thought they held true. She’s an amazing storyteller and, if you remember the 1991 movie “Man in the Moon,” it reminded me of that. (If you haven’t seen that movie, consider this a bonus recommendation.)
Have trouble blocking out noise at nighttime? Trust me when I say, I’ve tried and rejected pretty much every product on the market since my beloved, beloved Bose Sleepbuds II died and happened to also be discontinued. Since then, I’ve tried and returned Anker’s offering. I rotate between QuietOn (which are not very comfortable and they have no sounds, just noise-canceling properties) and Loop earplugs (which are comfortable but offer no sounds/active noise-cancelling). All I wanted was a replacement for my Bose, whose only fault was the poor battery life. Enter a random Kickstarter (Ozlo Sleepbuds) which are apparently a relaunch of the Bose with a new identity and a much better battery life. I won’t have them in hand for a few more months but if they’re anything like the Bose and you struggle with sleep, they’ll be worth it.
The snack I can’t quit is Gone Berry Crazy, in the frozen section at Trader Joe’s. This delicous dessert involves frozen strawberries with a dark chocolate coating. The problem is, if you eat one, you’ll eat the whole box. But they are so, so, so good.
That’s everything I’ve got for you this week. Hope it’s a great one for you. If you enjoy my weekly recommendations, please sign up to receive them by email or share with a friend.
