I noticed my classmate broke his scene up into separate shots, so I went that route, and that made working in Unreal joyful because I was finally able to be productive
- - I need to practice key animation and the timing of character sequences to make them less jittery, more natural
- Navigating the (3D environment) of Unreal: when we, as the general populace are using computer applications, we use them in 2D spaces. My experience with (teaching) TinkerCAD gave me the reps to start learning how to navigate the Unreal Engine workspace, which is more complex because the workspace has more assets. Learning the keyboard shortcuts in tandem with mouse input required that I had a note written for reference, until these keyboard shortcuts and mouse input became second nature.

TLDR: 2 months ago, I tore my Achilles Tendon during a Pickleball game (though I do CrossFit 4 times a week as well). I finally got surgery on it today. Don't be a bonehead like me, and think it's not as serious as it actually is and get a doctor's diagnosis immediately after the injury.

Mid-October: I go to pick up the pickleball during a normal game, and felt like someone had thrown a football super-hard at my calf, and I fall to the ground hard. My body goes in shock. My Pickleball mate brings me over to the bench. I call Kaiser and they schedule an appointment for an X-Ray. The Pickleball organizers ice my calf up. A chiropractor is advising me, saying I would not be able to walk if it's an Achilles Tendon tear. I am able to walk though it feels elevated so I delude myself into thinking it's "just a calf strain." I get an X-Ray and the report said "mild" something something so I delude myself into thinking that scheduling time with a Podiatrist wouldn't be worth it, so I don't take it seriously. When I don't get appointments, I brush it off as no big deal, and keep pushing off scheduling an appointment with a Podiatrist. I go play Pickleball, but take it easier because I can feel my left ankle is weaker. I still go to CrossFit 4 times a week, but don't run like I used to.

We, ourselves, are the easiest ones, to fool.

It has been the standard 2 week-long winter break. A teacher's trick I learned is long holiday breaks (in America) are a great time to schedule medical appointments (Shout out Warburton). After chronic pain of this left ankle, I finally muster the wise spirit (and stamp out my stubborn machismo) to schedule a Podiatrist appointment on January 2nd (day after New Years of course). I was able to see a Podiastrist the day of, and the diagnosis: Achilles Tendon tear from the narrative I told them, and their initial deconstrution of my injury narrative. We schedule an MRI the afternoon of (yay empty holidays). 2 days later: an Achilles Tendon surgery is scheduled for today (Friday). I get the surgery.

Tuesday to Friday the week of the New Years: from Podiatrist appointment to Surgery, bravo Kaiser.

There are 3 ways to fix a torn Achilles Tendon: end-to-end [bringing the ruptured tendon back together, using your own body is the best as the doc says], a cadavar graph to cover longer tears, or attaching some part of your calf muscle to the bottom of your torn Achilles tendon (and my body has been somewhat using this third option organically to help me: the human body is amazing at helping you live). I'll find out sometime soon how they actually went about the surgery because I don't even remember the surgery: bless the anesthesiologist and medical-use pain-killers.

The scariest part of this surgery: the payment (in America) of course. Thankfully, with me being a Berkeley Teacher, my co-pay was...$15! As the clerk is processing my co-payment, he remarks "Berkeley's got good benefits." (Shout out Juliana and Crystal)

All I've been thinking about this entire week, a quote from Tina Marrero of the Bear: "SCIENCE BABY!"

I reasoned since I have TSA Pre-Check and Clear, I could afford to take the free shuttle bus, time-wise. The domestic airport maxim is "arrive 2 hours to check in." With Clear and TSA Pre-check, I got in through the security gates in 4 minutes. I had 30 minutes before my boarding time (8:15am).

With Clear and TSA Pre-Check, it took 30 minutes, as opposed to 2 hours.

* Spend your blue credits to upgrade your cards (faster upgrades from the shop are a ripoff)
* Use your gold to buy daily mission refills
* In the collection tab, cards that are upgradable (that have enough blue credits and boosters) will shimmer (you can also sort cards by clicking on that small left accordion tab on the lower left and sort by "upgradable")
* Upgrading cards upgrades your collection level, which gets you new cards
* "Marvel Snap Zone" is where I read about decks, I also subscribe to YouTube channels and podcasts. When I get a new card (say Shang-Chi), I'll filter the "Decks" section, and filter for most "Likes" to see how others are deckbuilding around Shang-Chi
* My decks generally revolve around certain categories like "Control" or "Discard" or "Move" [that I named "Jagger"...get it...Moves like Jagger]. I've also named after certain characters (ie. "Infinaut deck" or "Moon Devil", which is Moon Girl + Devil Dinosaur, one of the great combos in the game)
* Refilling daily missions gets you more blue credit faster. Gold is best used for refilling daily missions and buying variants you like (I bought a Jim Lee Colossus variant for 700 gold recently)
* Also learn to "snap" strategically, it's basically like raising in poker (I'm more conservative with my snapping now (when I am 80% certain I'm gonna win)
* Also, as you get more matches under your belt, start retreating more (but don't retreat much as a beginner because you want to see out your matches to see what decks win, what cards you lose to), when I'm 80% certain I'm
Gonna lose, I retreat

My dearest of friends are getting married. My flight is at 8:50am, boarding ending at 8:30am. Up until the week prior, I figured waking up early and taking the first BART to SFO would suffice. Then, I remembered one BART trip I took one morning to take my Police Academy physical test, which got delayed by a mentally ill passenger - how stressful that was, getting me to panic-Lyft. Thankfully, it got resolved timely, but panic sucks. Odd passenger events often cause these delays.

There is no way in hell I am going to miss my friend's wedding.

I started researching how to sleep in airports, not that I am completely against getting sub-par sleep, but what got me was the uncertainty of being able to get through security the night prior to my flight, and if I couldn't get past security, my belongings getting stolen in the night while sleeping in the public ticketing area.

Then I remembered there is a Grand Hyatt at SFO. Unfortunately, it was completely booked. Then, I started searching Google Maps for neighboring hotels. I considered renting a nap room for an overnight at Freshen Up, but the rate I saw was $250 for the night. I defaulted back to sleepinginairports.net's SFO recommendations. I don't need anything fancy so my final (cheapest) choice to be made was between La Quinta's Millbrae and Airport Boulevard's location. What sealed the deal? La Quinta's Millbrae location is next door to a Hookah lounge. I was going to make this a 1-night staycation in Millbrae.

Getting to the $6 shuttle to La Quinta at SFO was easy: once you get off BART, head out to the departure lanes on the ground level, to the island, where ride shares are picked up. (I called La Quinta the night prior to make sure the shuttle was active: 5-9am and 5-9pm) In about 15 minutes, my 3rd party shuttle arrived. The ride into Millbrae's La Quinta was 15 minutes. I wish I had smaller dollar bills to tip the driver, I felt like a cheap jerk. I didn't get charged for the $6 drive in.

El Camino Real has a respectable selection of restaurants (a lot of Chinese). But I found Patio Pilipino. Pilipino restaurants are far and few in the East Bay, hence my excitement. After watching the Bucks beat the 76ers (Rockets basketball redux, Embiid is fuming), I made the short 7-block trek to the restaurant (no irony). Patio Pilipino unfortunately did not have their set menu prominently displayed on their site, so I opt for the most opulent dish (staycation!): Crispy Pata with vinegar soy sauce. It's like a really good steak, or a prime rib, in that I envision a future where a restaurant could make itself simply by serving up Crispy Patas as their spotlight dish. San Miguel beer was necessary to accompany the meal. You have to eat the Crispy Pata while it's freshly hot, while it's still freshly crispy. I wish I had 3 other friends with me so I could have ordered the garlic rice (they don't serve single servings of garlic rice), so I ordered Chicken Empanadas as my carbs.

After, I headed to Cloudz Hookah Lounge, where I got the Money Maker (fruit/mint) flavor. Price for all flavors: $28 with tax. They were showing the Lakers/Clippers game (of course the Clippers beat this year's Lakers). I chilled there for a good chunk of time, because the Hookah just kept on giving. I left my phone in the hotel room to charge, but I brought along my friend's amazing new children's book, Octopus Have Zero Bones.

I should've jumped in for a swim before I went to eat because I decided not to complicate my morning, to make it on the airport shuttle. The shuttle was an important part of my decision: $6 for the shuttle, which you have to buy a ticket for going back to SFO. It leaves every 45 minutes. I opted for the 6:25am shuttle. It arrived on right on the dot, we left promptly. I remembered to get smaller bills, so I tipped the driver this time. With Clear and TSA Pre-Check, I got through security at 6:50am. It took 25 minutes, as opposed to the rushed 90 minute trek it would have taken me from home.

I am an AMEX Platinum member. I was able to get a grab-n-go breakfast bag in 5 minutes, after it opening at 8am. My flight was at Gate 11, which took 5 minutes to walk to from the renovating AMEX lounge. My boarding group wasn't called yet.

I had a great night of sleep, from a chill night kicking it on El Camino Real. Staying Millbrae's La Quinta was a great game-time decision.

It's just about 1 year of playing pickleball on a regular basis (3 days a week minimum for at least 2 hours, so 6 hours a week). But, if I do a true tally, it's more like 10 hours a week, now including Saturdays. Shout out to the Dars and where it all started: Booker T Anderson Park in Richmond.

At first, of course I wasn't great. I don't even have tennis experience. I did pick up Ping Pong experience in Viet Nam. I've had some folks comment on that, though I do have long shots that seem like I have tennis experience.

Friends have said I'm a 3.5ish (after playing for 10 hours a week for a year). I still haven't even looked into what that means, and I've seen 1-2 videos on Pickleball stuff, but not much. I learn everything in real-time play, on court.

Off the top, here's some things I remember learning:

When it comes to returning the pickleball, you have more time than you think

Beware of happy feet, you can return shots with better accuracy with still feet

Pretend you need to stretch a rubber band between you and your partner: If they move to the right, you move to the left, etc. (you want to cover as much of the court as a pair)

Always have the paddle held with the face, perpendicular to your feet (so you are always ready to either forehand, or backhand)

Your grip should be so loose, someone can pull your paddle from your grip easily (for adaptability, depending on what kind of return you need to employ)

Like a professional basketball player's free throw attempt: have a routine you do every single time you serve the pickleball

Switching the paddle between your hands is legal, unlike in tennis (this is what I do)

You can jump diagonally across the kitchen (when the ball hasn't bounced in), to the outer boundary

65% of the times at the kitchen line, I can just hold my paddle there, and return [a return shot] with no effort, other than a decent return angle

Old-timers can be amazing, youngings can suck: always be ready for the challenge, not judgemental

With the high-falling shots, be like that desk-toy bird that bows their head at a continually revolving 90 degree angle

No lead is safe [rally on the 10], you can always make a comeback. be confident in yourself

When you raise your partner's confidence, your chances of winning are always better (and the match is always more fun)

Keep it low, and slow

Lobs towards the backline are actually the most gratifying (though kill shots get all the glory). Backline lobs are like Steph Curry 3s. Kill shots are like Michael Jordan dunks.

Wear sunscreen, eat a banana, drink water

My 3 highly recommended workouts: squats, jumping squats and suicide runs
