Viver Mal is a very solid film with beautiful shots, good quotes, and technically rich. Functions as a sort of portuguese Triangle of Sadness but approaches the theme a little differently.
The movie starts off very well setting up the objective and distant camera shots that illustrate the coldness of the relationships. This is maintained throughout the rest of the film. It is only broke by the humor present in some scenes/conversations to illustrate the ridiculousness of said relationships. Between all this, we get beautiful shots with the scenery in the north of Portugal.
Although we have these breaks and some variance in the three stories, the movie becomes a bit monotonous and repetitive towards the end. It is sometimes a tad pretentious but maintains its truthfulness until the end contrary to for example “Triangle of Sadness”.
