You asked if I have fun

I have been thinking about that since last night. I think a better answer than the one I offered is this: I don't think about fun any more than I think about the weather. I don't base my decision whether to do something on how fun it might or might not be. I don't base my activities on the weather either. The weather will be good, or not. I will do what I want to do regardless of the conditions.

When I went with my buddy who owns the yacht to bring it up the coast from West Palm Beach to Quincy we spent 10 days traveling on the water in one of the most luxurious crafts money can buy. Sounds like fun. We hit horrible weather. I got sea-sick. We hit a sandbar and had to have to boat hauled out to check the props. We hit a flotilla of seaweed and Glenn had to spend an hour cleaning out the water filters. And we had some fun. I saw the Statue Of Liberty up close and I cried about it she is so fucking beautiful. I won't do it again.

I will go to the Netherlands in September to sit in silent meditation for a week. I would rather do that than anything, but it is not fun. It's mostly dreadfully hard. It is not quiet. I will get physically sick with detoxing the poison in my soul. Why will I do it? I think because every time I do I land on the Earth with more solid footing. I am glad to be alive and feel my reason for being alive more deeply. God does not love me more for doing it. I love me and god more for doing it.

I feel like pursuing fun is like pursuing good weather. I enjoy the good weather, but I'd rather sit in meditation than go for a walk in the woods. I love meditating in the woods, but not because it's fun. I love going to the beach. That is some fun I can pursue. But I will put sitting much higher on my list that going to Good Harbor or Nantasket or Walden Pond.
