A simple exercise to remain grateful.

Have you ever thought back to a time in your past and thought:

Those were the good ole times.

I have—far too many times.

I frequently believe that I can only experience the good days once they’ve passed—I can only enjoy the moments in retrospect.

But that’s changed.

I now believe we all can experience that feeling during the current moment. We don’t have to wait until the moment passes to be grateful.

I learned this lesson recently.

I was out to dinner with the MyTalentPlanner team, and someone mentioned how lucky I was to be on this journey. They said that I would look back on this day as the good ole days. And I agreed with them.

But I wanted to enjoy this moment right now as the good ole days. So I did a quick Stoic exercise to help me feel grateful in the moment.

The exercise is quite simple and completely alters your perspective.

All you have to do is envision yourself in the future, looking back on this moment. How will you feel? What will you miss about the moment?

By using this visualization exercise, you can feel the way you felt ten years ago today. You can take that warm feeling you get when thinking of the good ole days and transport it into the present.

It’s an exercise I will be using a lot more.

How do you remain grateful for the current moment you’re in, knowing it will one day be “the good ole days?”
