Back to Basics

I've always enjoyed writing, but every time I've made an attempt to create a consistent online medium for my thoughts, I was inevitably sucked into spending more time tinkering with blog settings, analyzing user traffic, and ultimately NOT doing what I originally intended – writing actual content. Consequently, each endeavor flamed out, and my sense of motivation along with it. I didn't realize it at the time, but the reality is that I needed limitations on how I could customize the site; I needed to not care about how many people were actually reading it; I needed to write, not tinker endlessly with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.

I needed simple, not complex.

Enter HEY World. This genius concept doesn't require me to configure a website, nor do I need to rely on a separate service with a bloated interface that charges me a monthly fee. I have no intention of monetizing my content, and frankly I don't care if anyone reads it. I want a sandbox to play in and share my thoughts with an audience of one – me – and if you like what you hear, then you can easily subscribe and have future posts delivered straight to your inbox.

No comments, no social media sharing buttons, and no embedded JavaScript. Less content hosted on LinkedIn, and no more Twitter thread fights across 27 fragmented posts (unless I'm in a fighting mood that day).

Less Web 2.0 and more Web 1.0. Mari Kondo would be proud of this digital de-cluttering.

I'm interested in HEY World because of all the things it doesn't do. It's not a platform. It's a virtual typewriter. Typewriters are simple machines with a basic purpose.

It's time to get back to basics with my writing.
