You can’t kill what won’t die

The blues is a music that gets lost in time. It’s a music that is rooted in the past by its sounds and it’s subjects. It’s old time music that is never new, it just reinvents itself over and over again.

That said, the blues runs deep. So deep that it is the bedrock, and the soil and the roots of most all music today. Cliches abound - it’s the real-deal truth.

The blues endures. It’s survivor music. People think it’s about feeling low, but it’s about the flip-side… the possibilities.

Tonight I am at one of Chicago’s oldest and most prominent blues joints: Blue Chicago.

It survived the storm. It survived the pandemic. It survived because it can’t die. This joint is a carrier of a different kind. You come here to get inflected.

The blues is alive and well, people. Join the line, pay the cover, get a beer, get down low and feel the music.
