Spotify gave me permission to move to Apple Music

I have  paid for Spotify for 10 years now. I upgraded to premium when I bought my first Sonos speaker since it didn't work with the free plan. Few years ago, I upgraded to family plan so my parents could use it with their Sonos.

Last year, I got an Apple Homepod Mini and discovered there is no Siri integration. I support 100% Spotify in their quest to play fair, so I used Airplay. No way I move to Apple Music and make Apple even stronger. I have many Apple product already so I'm rooting for Spotify.

When Spotify announced their Stream On event for March 2023, I was expecting 2 things:
  • Make it work with Apple, Airplay is suboptimal
  • Hi-Fi. Hi-Fi was announced 2 years ago and we haven't heard anything new since.

Instead they revealed a new version of the app with vertical scrolling, designed after TikTok... It could be great, maybe some people will love it and it's the best decision for Spotify. I dunno.

What I know is that I'm not the target audience anymore.

My favorite thing about Spotify is playlist based on mood. I don't really care what I'm listening to, I just want to good ambiance music. I also love automatic playlist for artists named "This is XXX". Apple Music has that, but Hi-Fi. Discovery is something I'm not interested in.

I have seen what vertical scrolling has done with Instagram and TikTok: I'm not interested.

Anyway, I started moving to Apple Music and I don't feel guilty about it now.
