Welcome to My Digital Corner: Let's Talk Tech, Freedom, and a Bit of Footy!
Hey everyone, and welcome to what I hope will become a little digital hub for some honest chats, a few rants, and maybe even a chuckle or two. If you've found your way here, chances are you're curious about a few things that really get me ticking.
You see, I've spent a fair bit of my life immersed in the world of technology, but not just the shiny new gadgets everyone's talking about. My passion lies in the foundational stuff – the stuff that makes the internet work and, more importantly, stay free and open. We're talking Linux, open source, open web standards – basically, anything that champions a truly free and open internet. In an age where digital privacy feels like a luxury and "big tech" seems to call all the shots, I believe these principles are more important than ever.
I plan to dive into some of the big issues we're all grappling with in this digital age: privacy (or the lack thereof), digital freedom, cybersecurity threats that seem to pop up daily, the ever-evolving landscape of AI, and the promise of decentralised tech. Of course, open source will always be a running theme, and I'll sprinkle in my thoughts on world and local news as they relate to these topics. And yes, you can definitely expect a personal opinion or two thrown in for good measure – because what's a blog without a bit of personality?
Now, before you think this is going to be all heavy tech talk, let me assure you, I'm a human being with other passions too! When I'm not tinkering with a Linux distro or pondering the future of the open web, you'll probably find me yelling at a TV (or live, if I'm lucky!). My local footy team, the mighty Woodville-West Torrens Eagles, always has my heart. In the national league, it's the St Kilda Saints – hopefully, our time will come soon! And if you're a rugby league fan, you know I'm all about the Rabbitohs. Globally, my football allegiance lies with RB Leipzig. I've been following them since the late 2009/2010 season, and if you're looking for an English voice on all things RBL, you might know me from my podcast, RBL Talk. So yeah, don't be surprised if a bit of sport sneaks into the conversation from time to time!
This blog is going to be a journey, and I’m excited to have you along for the ride. I'll be writing casually, sharing my thoughts as I navigate life in this increasingly digital world. Whether you're a fellow tech enthusiast, a privacy advocate, a sports fan, or just someone looking for a different perspective, I hope you find something interesting here.
So, if any of that resonates with you, make sure to subscribe! You can get my latest posts straight to your inbox by email, or if you're old school like me, grab the RSS feed.
