RB Leipzig and Me

Why I’ve Supported RB Leipzig Since 2009
For me, supporting RB Leipzig has never been about following a trend or jumping on success — it’s been personal from the start. My connection to the club traces back to 2009, the very beginning, when the team was just finding its feet in the lower leagues. Some of my family come from Leipzig (majority Kiel), and through them, I was introduced not only to the city but also to its growing footballing heartbeat. When RBL was formed, it represented more than just another team — it was a symbol of ambition, rebirth, and the idea that something new could thrive in a city with a rich sporting history.

Falling in Love with the Style of Football
What truly drew me in was the football itself. From the early days, RB Leipzig built its identity on energy, intensity, and purpose — pressing high, playing fast, and attacking with bravery. It was football that felt alive. Every pass, every transition, every run forward reflected a philosophy that matched the city’s pulse: young, bold, and unafraid of taking risks.

Over the years, watching Leipzig evolve from the Regionalliga to competing in Europe has been like following a living project — one that keeps redefining what’s possible with good scouting, development, and a clear vision. For me, that’s the beauty of supporting RBL: it’s not just about winning games, it’s about watching a philosophy in motion.

The Red Bull Connection (and My Coffee Habit)
It’s funny, because despite supporting a club owned by an energy drink company, I almost never touch the stuff. I’m more of a black coffee, no sugar kind of person. But if I ever do buy an energy drink, it’s Red Bull — not out of habit, but out of loyalty. The brand’s involvement in the club has always been controversial to outsiders, but to me, it’s simple: without Red Bull, there would be no RB Leipzig. And without RB Leipzig, I wouldn’t have this deep, decade-and-a-half-long passion for football the way I do now.

More Than a Club — A Connection
Supporting RB Leipzig isn’t about corporate slogans or global marketing. For me, it’s about identity and belonging. It’s about feeling that connection to something that started small and dreamt big. It’s about watching players develop, seeing the club fight through criticism, and knowing that every season — win, draw, or loss — I’m part of a community that believes in forward momentum.

So yes, I’ve supported RB Leipzig since 2009 — not because of who owns them, but because of what they represent. Passion. Progress. And a belief that football, like Leipzig itself, is always moving forward.

The Birth of RBL Talk — A Global Place For RB Leipzig Supporters
Out of that same passion came the creation of the RBL Talk Podcast. What started in humble beginnings — just me talking about the team I love, their tactics, and their evolution — has grown into something much bigger. I wanted to build a space where RB Leipzig fans from around the world could come together: a centralized hub for news, tactical reviews, match previews, and honest discussion without judgment or bias. The goal has always been to give the global RBL community — not just those in Germany — a place to have their voices heard, especially through the RBL Talk segment where fans share their thoughts and experiences. Over time, that vision has turned into reality. I’m proud to be known as the English voice of RB Leipzig, with a growing audience of passionate supporters across continents who tune in week after week. What began as a personal project has become a global conversation — one built on respect, love for the club, and a shared belief in what RB Leipzig stands for.

Acknowledging the Controversy of RB Leipzig's Origins
Now I know to most fans in Germany, particularly those in the county who are apart of offical fan clubs to a majority of the Bundesliga and DFB teams the very existence of RB Leipzig is an affront to all that they believe in. The team’s primary purpose, as they see it, is not to play soccer or represent a community, but to increase Red Bull’s brand visibility. The entire organisation is, in their eyes, an artificial construct weaponised by an international corporation — and brazenly circumventing the 50+1 rules that are supposed to place ultimate control of German clubs in the hands of their fans — so that it can sell a few more cans of energy drink.

I don’t see it that way I see RB Leipzig as a club with ambitions to be the best team in Europe, East Germany and the Country, one of few clubs that have the ability, resources and persistence to challenge Bayern for supremacy in German football.
