There’s multiple options out in the blogging space especially for the personal blogger like blogger, substack, Wordpress, wix, ghost, medium, squarespace, beehiiv, pika, weebly, and microblog but Hey World, why?
Well I tried substack it was good, free with room to grow and monetise but they under pressure from the Australian government forced ID verification checks forcing users to doxx themselves in the name of ‘protecting the children’ which seems more of a global attempt to control end users on the internet then actually prevent under 16’s from accessing sensitive material so I closed the account.
I tried ghost as I do like and support FOSS but they became expensive just to write my thoughts especially with a custom domain so instead of bleeding unnecessary funds I closed that one down.
Then lastly I tried beehiiv which I didn’t have any complaints and no real issues, has a nice builder, a good way to track subscribers, free email newsletters including from your own domains but then I hit the biggest hurdle with the free tier a limit of 1 post in 24hrs.
Then I found Hey World. I can write my blog posts not just on my laptop but on my mobile and just simply send it and format it as an email plus I get an email address that is professional that I can use instead of giving out my iCloud account.
Yes I have to pay $99 USD p/yr but sometimes something simple even with limitations is worth it. What do you think the best blogging platform is and why? If you’re a blogger I’d also like to know what you use and why. Here’s a few images for what it looks like when you subscribe with your email address and what you get in your inbox.
