I have a love/hate relationship with categorizing blog posts.
Things I love:
- Organizes information around common themes
- Offers a way to navigate posts that’s not chronological and not a search
- Can help me think deeper on a few subjects, if I stick to a small number of categories
- Offers a way to navigate posts that’s not chronological and not a search

Things I hate:
- Limits topics I post about, unless I want a miscellaneous category
- Might require re-thinking category names and organization in the future
- Has potential to bore me with writing about the same set of topics
I love organizing information, but I hate how blog categories can feel like a limit on my writing.
I realized that since you can’t assign categories to HEY World posts, this is a non-issue. I don’t have to think about which topics I’ll write about. I don’t have to decide what to name categories. I don’t feel like I should scrap an idea because it falls outside the categories.
I can just write. This is the first time in a while I don’t have to think about how it fits (or doesn’t fit) on my page.
