A simple design gives you what you want, nothing more than it needs to be. Which means you don't need to read a book before being able to use it. A useful design must have a purpose, solving a human problem. A good design doesn't become obsolete after six months, it's build to last. And yes, it's possible to do good design which last 100 years.
