When Nritya and I used to talk about what we want to do a few years ago, we mostly had one thing on our mind. What we *didn’t* want to do. So we built our life around what we didn’t want to do and that got us pretty far. The problem with filling in a life with negative space is just that. It’s negative. There’s still a lot of space left! The first major move we made a few years ago was deciding to move to India. Then we made more major moves and decided to have a kid. Since Sakshi was born, we’ve effectively been figuring out what to do with the rest of our lives.
We both have a lot to give this world and we don’t want to be consumers, simply drifting along in a sea of passivity. That said, before we figure out a direction to tread, now seems as good a time as any to explore. I for one have been on a straight and narrow path for a long time (my recent estimate puts this at around 8th grade) and I want to shake things up. There are many trails to wander, many fields to run through, and many mountains to climb!
… and of course, many waterfalls to jump
And so we begin! On to an adventure. We have very little idea of where to go (we erased the proverbial whiteboard just this week) but we’re both fairly excited about the possibilities and eager to meet people and places along the way that will inspire us along our very own journey.
While in Bali these last few weeks, we’ve seen and done a lot (fodder for another blog post) but it felt right somehow to watch the complete Lord of the Rings movies + the Hobbit! That Tolkien guy, he sure knew how to write an adventure. And so, we embark on our own. While we may not be transporting a perilous ring to the fires of mount doom, we are setting off towards the unknown, with limited knowledge of what we’ll find and who we’ll meet.
We’re planning on being in Bali till mid-November, Bangalore till end of November and then Seattle for most of December and some of January. If you have any ideas of where to go/what to do, please drop me a note. I’d love to hear from you.
