Christmas Star – A light to guide the way - Mini Story

On Christmas Eve, a tabby named Solstice watched the sky from a frosty windowsill. A sudden starburst lit the heavens, its glow drawing her outside. She padded through the snow, leading a lost traveler to a nearby inn. The star faded, but its warmth lingered, and so did the tabby's purr.

Christmas Star – A light to guide the way - Short Story

Solstice and the Christmas Star

Snow blanketed the town, casting a hush over the world as if nature itself had paused to honor the sacred night. Solstice, a sleek tabby with fur the color of cinnamon and frost-dappled whiskers, perched on her favorite windowsill. Her emerald eyes scanned the stars above, glittering like jewels scattered across the heavens.

Inside, the family bustled around the tree, their laughter warm and bright. Solstice enjoyed their company, but tonight, something beyond the cozy confines of the house called to her. A peculiar star, brighter than any she had ever seen, shimmered in the sky. It pulsed gently, almost as if it were alive, beckoning her.

Without hesitation, she leapt down, her padded paws silent on the hardwood floor. Solstice nudged the back door open—a skill she'd perfected—and stepped into the crisp night air. The snow was cold against her paws, but she hardly noticed. The star’s light bathed her in a soft glow, leading her onward.

Solstice followed its trail through the sleeping town, her movements graceful and sure. She crossed the empty market square, passed the silent church with its bell tower rising into the night, and reached the forest edge. The star guided her along a narrow path between the trees, its light cutting through the darkness like a lantern.

A sound broke the stillness: a faint, tired voice. Solstice paused, ears swiveling. She padded closer, and there, slumped against a tree, was a young traveler wrapped in a threadbare cloak. His cheeks were red with cold, and his eyes drooped with exhaustion. A small satchel lay beside him, dusted with snow.

Solstice meowed softly, her voice cutting through the traveler’s daze. He opened his eyes, startled to see the tabby staring at him with an almost knowing expression.

“Where did you come from, little one?” he murmured, his voice hoarse.

Solstice stepped closer, brushing her warm fur against his chilled hand before turning back toward the path. She glanced over her shoulder and meowed again, urging him to follow.

Though weary, the traveler felt a flicker of hope. Gathering his satchel, he stood on shaky legs and followed the cat. Solstice led him through the woods, her small form weaving effortlessly between the trees. The star above continued to guide them, its light unwavering.

At the edge of the forest, the path opened to a clearing where a quaint inn stood, its windows glowing with welcoming light. Smoke curled from the chimney, and the scent of roasted meat and mulled cider wafted through the air.

The traveler’s eyes filled with relief. “Thank you,” he whispered, though he wasn’t sure if he was speaking to the cat or the star.

Solstice meowed one last time before circling his legs and padding away, her mission complete. She slipped back into the forest, the star’s glow dimming as she returned home.

The traveler, now safe and warm inside the inn, shared his story with the kind innkeeper. “A cat and a star led me here,” he said, his voice full of wonder.

Back at her house, Solstice curled up on her windowsill, content. The star still shone faintly in the sky, a reminder that even the smallest beings could light the way for those in need.

That is it for today...
