I studied the Biosphere tracks on the Shenzhou album that I love and I learned a lot about why I like that one. It has repeating loops of orchestral music for the most part and this repetition varies a bit throughout. It gives a steady rhythm where there is none normally and I think this is what I like.
By first filtering the orchestral loops with an EQ, I could get close to the tone I wanted, and this was important for sure.
But, I was able to really capture the vibe of it with the U-he Colour Copy which is a bucket brigade type of delay. Getting that just right is what really makes a difference for me.
Sure the other stuff is good to create the variation throughout it and the saturation effects are needed, but these two items I described above make all the difference.
