Making Decisions...

On Making Decisions...

I really enjoy reading Jason Fried and his team's article on what guides their decision-making process. Whether it is in a product role, running a business or even optimising our lives (think buying a bigger home, investing..), we are always making decisions. Here are a few points that really resonated with me:

3. If we remove the immediate impact, how do we think we’ll feel about this decision a year from now?
This removes the emotion and prompts one to think longer-term. It is about the eventual, how we will feel when this decision unfolds.

7. Can we make this decision smaller? Can we take one big decision and turn it into three smaller ones?
This is really useful in managing risks and allowing space for review between decisions. Don't take a big gulp, take a few sips

8. How easily can we reverse the decision?
Reminds me of the quote by James:
"If a decision is reversible, the biggest risk is moving too slow.

If a decision is irreversible, the biggest risk is moving too fast.

So, consider the time and attention we are giving to a decision.

17. What other decisions will be impacted by this decision?
Every decision has a consequence. Each consequence carries a subsequent consequence. Consider the second-order effect behind a decision.
