What if 80% of marketing jobs were gone tomorrow?

If you're anything like me, the idea of 80% of marketing jobs evaporating sounds like a pretty good idea at first thought.

Don't get me wrong, I love great marketing (it is half my vocation, after all). The problem is that so little of marketing is great, and so much of it is useless noise.

So, wouldn't it be better if there were fewer marketers?

Maybe, but maybe not.

I am beginning to believe this isn't a theoretical question. The rapid advances in AI have led me to believe that 70-80% of marketing jobs will be redundant within the next five or so years. All graphic designers, copywriters, social media managers, entry and mid-level roles, email and SEO specialists, production videographers, and photographers will no longer be human jobs. The production work of these roles will largely be delegated to AI by 20-30% of marketers who can creatively and strategically design high-level frameworks, campaigns, and messaging.

And that great replacement isn't likely to be progress.

It's likely to result in a lot more crap.

Even in marketing, the limits of humans might just be a benefit to humanity.
