Hello from New Mexico + upcoming workshops

Hello friends,

I'm writing from the high desert of northern New Mexico, where I've been painting, walking, talking to rocks, working with my pigment mentor, and marveling for the past month.

I've gathered this small list of people who, I think, may be interested in occasional updates about my art life and teaching. Eventually this may be a "proper" newsletter attached to a "proper" website, but somehow life keeps coming first and those plans get left behind...as it should be.

Anyway, a few things coming up I wanted to tell you about. I'd be grateful if you'd share with your fellow travelers! Institutions are anxious about workshop attendance in *this economy.*

Upcoming Workshops
June 20
Wild Color Workshop at Mountaintop Arboretum, Tannersville NY
A quick one with plants found in the springtime arboretum landscape, covering some basic color-making techniques.

August 14-16th
Wild Color Workshop at Sugar Maples Center for Creative Arts, Maplecrest NY
A three-day deep dive into the art and craft of making color, using materials harvested together from the Sugar Maples campus. We'll cover more materials and techniques in this one, and have plenty of time for exploration and experimentation. Super excited about this one.

New Mexico
I'll write something longer about the magic of this place next time, and share some of the work I've been doing, but for now here are some snippets.

Color moments shared by the land...

I've developed a daily practice of choosing one rock to bring inside and paint before returning it outside. Here are a few of those little rock portraits.

I'm here with my little cat Jupiter, who has her own daily work of waking us up each morning to see the sunrise, and delighting in the sun-warmed stone of the patio.

I hope to see each of you soon, in workshop or otherwise.

Big love,
Lou

ps. don't be shy about letting me know if you don't want any more emails!
