It's improvement. Definitely not sexy. But when I look back over the last 3 years, the through-line from then to now is that I improved. I got better. I've always said that your income is a reflection of you. It's finally sunk in for me now.
My goal is to be the single wealthiest person in my age bracket (18-24)—the unequivocal number one. I think I'll be there when I'm 23-24. The only difference between then and now is how much better I'll be—how much I improved.
The lesson from this? Focus on getting better. As Frank Slootman said in his book, "I am not so much focused day-to-day on outcomes; I am focused on maximising the input side of the equation.” We can only control what we do—our inputs. We cannot control what we get—the output.
Why did I write this blog now? This lesson clicked for me yesterday. Everything I have is because I improved. The only reason people want to know me is because I have gotten better. The same is true for you. I hold the fundamental belief that everything I want will come from me getting better.
I will leave you with this exceptional quote from Wooden: “I would not accept inconsistency—the pitfalls of repeated highs and lows. I wanted the individuals on our team to play the same way, game to game, that is, with the greatest intensity while executing at the highest performance level of which they were capable.”
Improvement is the goal,
Lukas
