Letters from Somewhere No.073

Gibaja (Cantabria, España)

You often only realize in retrospect how extraordinary a phase was. Sometimes during it. I knew it straight away. Not immediately when we arrived, but after a few hours and definitely in the first few days. This stay was going to be something special.

Now it's over and we're 600 kilometers further northwest in a completely different region. It is therefore remarkable that you notice this immediately. The whole environment, the nature is different. We are in a small village of which we have seen nothing more than the two dark red buildings. And the dark blue one right opposite, which appears to be a bar or café.

We were greeted by loud music, which didn't please me at first. The new apartment is also anything but a place where I could feel too comfortable. At least that's my first impression. And here we are again, with the deceptive first impression. But it wasn't that deceptive in the last accommodation.

The feeling I had there in the first few days was reinforced in the days that followed. My initial opinion continued to be confirmed and was not refuted on a single day. This does not apply to the city, only to the accommodation. The city welcomed me differently, but even this impression has not left me.

What does all this tell me? It shows me that my intuition has strengthened during this trip. What I experience in the first moments is something that stays with me. More and more often it stays, I have to say. It is not an absolute truth that is immediately available to me. However, it is a first impression that immediately writes itself into my soul.

How have I changed in these two years, or how long is the exact period of traveling? In many ways, I can't say exactly. But as far as my intuition is concerned, it has become a far more reliable factor than it ever was. But that also means that something fundamental has changed in me. Something that trusts this intuition. And that is an excellent thing.
