Letters from Somewhere No.089

Quimper (Finistère, France)

Time flies. I am glad about that because I don't like staying in this accommodation and in this area. And I am sad because it is lifetime that passes, and I wish I could savor it fully. But I use it well. I work on personal projects that I advance. That's a consolation, nothing more for now. I hope it will be different once we are out of here.

We have the best time when we are outside. That is the reason why we are in Brittany. It's not the cities, which in most cases are run-down, cramped, and crowded. It's not the people, with whom we rarely come into contact and of whom nothing remains after a certain time but a vague memory. It's nature.

There is little of it here in the area, with one exception: An abandoned railway that is currently being converted into a green hiking trail. When no work is being done, you can use it. It leads out of the city and into a forest area, which is very beautiful in itself. But we have only been on this path twice in the entire time. Work and everyday life take up most of the time.

This requires us to spend a lot of time in the accommodation. For this reason, it is enormously important that we feel comfortable in it. And that is not the case here. In contrast to the coasts and beaches or in the forests and on wide, deserted fields. It's the GR34 and many other hiking trails that delight me. It's the tranquility in nature.

The coasts are the most beautiful. I love being by the sea, especially when the sun shines and glitters in the water. I love the tranquility it radiates. And I love the beauty of the rugged rocks, the deep cliffs, and caves. This is what I will miss the most. This sea has enchanted me, and I know it will never let me go again.
