It's freezing in Canberra this week. Good weather for staying under my heated throw on the couch and reading a book (still working through Count Zero by William Gibson). Only problem is the falling asleep straight away part. Old-man-cosy-blanky problems, yo.
Running

Have managed to squeeze in some runs though, in-between bouts of rain and severe reluctance. A few years back I got some compression leggings from Aldi, to aid with running in the cold. Maybe they had a more manly name, like X-Treme Muscle Containment System for Swole Legs. But I finally decided to give them a go. They're so smooth, and while they provide very little warmth, IT band knee twinges seem to disappear while wearing them. They're hugs for your legs and I see why leggings are so popular! I've been missing out all these years.
Anyway, have been tweaking my route, and have a good 10km loop around the lower bits of Mount Ainslie and Mount Majura, although after the rain I decided for my Thursday run that I'd head the opposite way, the less muddy way, and from Ainslie I ran down to Lake Burley Griffin, across Commonwealth Ave Bridge, back along Kings Ave Bridge, and then to the War Memorial before home. And that was only 8.5km.
It really surprises me how far I can run, when 10 years ago I would get winded climbing a flight of stairs. Even the Mount Ainslie/Majura areas it's easy to under-estimate how far the 10km is, because all the trees and paths obscure landmarks, but when you're running down the lake, across some bridges and back, places I'm normally driving past, it feels like I'm a super person. Especially compared to 30s me. And I like that. It inchuffenates me!
Going to see the best way to train for a half-marathon - 21km. That seems crazy far, and I want to approach it as safely as possible. Would be good to do a couple of half-marathons before I'm 50 (2 years time).
Animations and Game Developers
I love following indie game devs. Following people following their dreams. And I love cute animations. Look at this little guy using a chair! You can follow @LilGaterGame too if you like. Bonus follow, @skslucher.
Also, I've been following this game developer, @talecrafter on Twitter, and now his game, Death Trash is on Steam - a demo will be available to play on June 15th I think. It's a post-apocalyptic RPG, with pixel-art animated violence and funny dialogue. Can't wait!
And just because I follow a lot of animators on Twitter in a combination of envy and inspiration, there's been a lot of cool examples coming from the monthly Animation Challenge twitter account (@ChallengeAnim), and I love this one, because Azula, but there's so many cool people doing cool things there.
