Cliffs of Mohar

We saw the Cliffs of Mohar from both the North and the South.

From the North, we left Doolin and walked to the walking trail. The view is spectacular and at 9:00 in the morning we had the walk to ourselves… except for the horses and cows.

At first we walked down a paved and gravel road. After about a mile you have to climb over a fence to continue on the trail. My rule following wife was very uncomfortable with this, so we turned around and walked back to Doolin.

When in town we asked if we should go to the “official” visitor center. Another person suggested driving past the visitor center and following signs to the “Cliffs of Mohar walking trail car park”.

Sure enough, after driving past the visitor center (a total zoo) we continued onward and saw the signs for the car park.

For €5 you park your car and walk to Hag’s Head at the southern end of the Cliffs.

You can tell the difference in the photos below… when we are walking north from Hag’s head the cliffs are much bigger and the trail is much more crowded.

If I had it to do again, I would hike the entire route, from north to south. I would bring water, some snacks, and dress for wind and water. I would drop the car at the car park and have a taxi take me back to Doolin. I would hike from Doolin to Hag’s Head. (Likely 10 miles, so allow most of the day)
