Slow down to speed up. 🔥
We are obsessed with synchronous communication and fast exchange. There's a believe that this leads to faster decision making and better performance.
Everything is urgent. We dread every new notifications which might be another task, a question asked the 100th time, or just a distraction from the task at hand. It adds stress.
Not getting a response instantly adds anxiety - was I heard? will there be an answer? when?
Synchronous communication causes bottlenecks, overflow of unstructured information and just a mess: it's impossible to find information in company chats (Slack, MS Teams etc).
A slow down to take stock, structure information and document decisions would actually add effectiveness and bring better results long-term.
It's like this fire: You can speed up and just lighten up a canister of petroleum. Or you can take time and create something that is much more enjoyable, longer lasting and sustainable.
