Day 11: 2022-09-20: Miami to Albany, GA

Tuesday was a much longer day than I expected. I needed to get an oil change (indicator turned on in Miami) and new tires — and I planned for it and tried to make an advance appointment, but the shop still worked on a first-come, first-serve basis. I was #2 at 9:00, and they forecast that I’d be ready by 3pm. I was surprised, and they clarified: probably really 2.

I was facing another 500 mile day, so I was kind of stressed by this… but then they called me at 12:45 to say that it was ready. Yay! Except I wanted to get lunch. I tried some cheese and  meats with arepas at the Colombian restaurant nearby, and ended up leaving the bike shop near 1:30.

I headed into Miami to try some ice cream from Little Havana. It was fun to see Calle Ocho, but I bet it would have been even more fun at night. There’s a lot of traffic in Miami, though, and on the ride, I noticed that the shop forgot a step in resetting the service indicator (which apparently requires being hooked to their fancy diagnostic machine — I can reset the indicator on my car through a menu). Back to the shop, and I ultimately didn’t get out of town until closer to four.

This was my first situation on either trip where I really rued pre-planning my stays!

I also was kicking myself for choosing Albany, because I couldn’t remember why I wanted to go there, and it ended up being half an hour extra off the expressway. But I made it.
