Day 9: 2022-09-18: Atlanta to Tallahassee

I tried to take a scenic route out of Atlanta rather than just hanging out on the expressway. I went through Atlanta's Little Five Points, which was a super cool looking neighborhood with lots of street art and a nightclub with a huge skull for its door.

I passed a small burg with a lot of signage related to filming The Walking Dead there. There are lots of places that advertise tours of filming locations for the show. I think it's pretty cool that a popular series leads to so much tourism. Of course, every time I'm in Chicago, I remember Jake and Elwood talking about the "Honorable Richard J. Daley Plaza, where they got that Picasso".

I went to the western edge of the Florida Panhandle and followed US-98 along the Gulf of Mexico for a while, enjoying passing through Fort Walton Beach and Destin. I hadn't initially paid much attention to the map when I planned, so I didn't know that there was also a bay to the north of the road, which probably increased the tourist trap draw of the area. After a pretty sunset (which I didn't really get to appreciate much of, since it was at my back), I switched to take the expressway into Tallahassee.

About ten minutes before the expressway (half an hour before the hotel), I pulled over to take a phone call. When I started back off, I got the notice that my headlight was out. I was running with some extra lights on, so visibility was degraded but not impossible, and between them and the high beams, I made it to the hotel. I tried to stop at a Wal-Mart for a new bulb, but it was just a bit too late at night.
