A fan of ambient sound

I undid my Vornado last night to deal with the squeak . This trusty fan has been helping cool our place for many years, and it’s a great source if ambient noise too , for helping to fall asleep too !

But the vornado had been squeaking as of late and I have been putting off the maintenance until well, last night 😆. It was already past midnight but as I was trying to sleep, I decided the noise was enough to get me to look for an adequate allen wrench, take the fan out of its casing and pull it down.

I have no idea if this is going to last but I used olive oil.

Tightening it back up, and trying it out, I noticed that it would not start up now . Stalling instead .

Oh no 😬 haha. I ran out of time, because it was already so late, so I just fell asleep without ambient sound but with the knowledge that I at least tried haha.

The morning after

But , but ,… interestingly, the Vornado indeed started working again the next day 😀.  Although not on the low setting , at least at first. But on the high setting, it started spinning fine. And then the low setting also works .

So this tells me that last night probably the oil was too viscous and so the motor stalled. And several hours later, the viscosity impacting the axle directly must have reduced so no more stalling. Yay.
