Choose your own adventure

Well I had a zip car reservation to visit my mom the other day and I had it in the morning of 9AM. So I was telling myself, on the walk over to the parking lot, well, I just hope this will not be the third time in a row that my zip car reservation car is not there. Because last two I walk over to the times, eight spot   parking lot in the back of on apartment building near me, and, spend Some quality time on the phone with a helpful person representative at zip car and explained what I see in front of my eyes. I see the Zip car signs in front of a bunch of cars, but none of them with plates in my reservation. I mentioned this to my rep, and she says she will honk the car remotely just in case and asked me to listen for it. I felt sort of silly since I didn’t see it. Maybe haha that the car was literally right in front of my too eyes and I was just morning groggy to see it? No honk of course, emanated;
they stared their car eyes at me  silently judging.

On the first of these occasions, it was a Fathers Day holiday I recall and the hold time was so long in the lead up that I had already been half way through booking an alternative ride with Avis and when the customer rep at Zip zip told me the closest alternative was a van and no cars basically I just hit reserves on the Avis rental. I did not want to show up or drive up to upstate New York in a cargo van, and for wine tasting no less haha. So the second occasion, actually there was no holiday. The car was no where in sight so I took a peak at the street and nothing there. I asked hey maybe did they park the car somewhere we can just walk to it? But I was told due to privacy policy they cannot say. So instead I was hearing  options for other cars, as alternates. I had my significant other with me this time so, she booked a Uber to the destination of the alternative ride, while I was, on the phone with Zip. The line was actually very low signal to noise that call so it was a good bit of repeating and we ended up getting a re-route while in the Uber because a better timed alternative had come up in the conversation. Main options were  like between a rock and a hard place, that is a van now close by or a car but available an hour from now. I looked at her and she said no to the van of course haha. We got to the alternate    wheels. Actually, when we got dropped off in Greenpoint, near the northern part, I am embarrassed to admit, I actually only then learned from my significant other, the names were Alphabetical, So, Ash St, Box St , Clay St, DuPont, Eagle, F?, G, Huron, India, Java. Oh holy Wow. How I never noticed this. So we found  the hotel parking lot wow, for it was maybe Box Hotel? So quiet. There was like pop corn on the ceiling to help with Sound absorption so basically it was a recording studio! Amazing. You could hear a pin drop in there as they say. → We went drove to our destination, a winery in upstate Warwick, and well, we got there on hour before close. I think a new record for us has, in the many years we have been going there. → Good to be there nonetheless. Actually a new crazy good meat smoker in the back food truck was there so totally worth it.

Well back to present day. So Zipcar trip today. I am walking, with all  this in mind. Thinking. And no Zip car. Well of course. I call and sort of like last time, I am informed, well let me try to listen for a honk. Okay and I go to the streets inspecting the plates nearby, no so far. But this time, yes the representative informs me due to privacy policy I cannot know where the car is, but then during the I conversation I learn the car is close, I think the phrasing was like under 100 meters away I ignored that at the time I realize now because looking of the plates and listening for the honk, I don't see anything. So that must be erroneous information my brain ignored. But I latched on to the part that it is "close" and it gives me new hope that hey maybe I will find it? So I think to myself let’s see where this leads. And I go to the nearest intersection. The representative basically says I should be able to hear it and that  I also have the option to find an  alternative car. But I think boy hey really? the car is here? Ok  I say to her lets play this game, this car is mine haha! So at the intersection I look at  all the cars, none with the correct license plate. I go North,  around , the block, nothing. I’m basically running around at this point. So I went maybe too far away and the representative was like still apologetic that they can’t tell me but that I should probably just go back to the intersection I was at before. And then I wonder hmm so I have looked around here and checked all the cars and wondering did they park it in a driveway? Then I see oh wait haha there’s a parking garage . How did I miss it but it was one of those recessed underground lots. I walk in the parking garage and I say okay please honk again because with the echo in this parking garage I should hear it easily. And a man sees my puzzled curious face and asks , "are you  looking for a zip car?"  I say yes haha. And he tells me where to go. It is there . Success. Right in front of me I also see another zip car haha not supposed to be in here so I tell he on the phone too, the license . She asks ,me so would I like a refund for the time . So I lost like an hour playing this fun game I think to myself also. So worth it though. Last weird thing is I’m driving out I hear the strangest noise, when steering. Wow hoping it’s not the steering column. But the whole garage is painted not concrete. So weird.
Nice I realize kind of this is the [[choose your own adventure]] type life I like.

So I head to my moms place. We go visit the cemetery to visit my grandparents graves on her side of the family. And my mom tells me some cool stories. So I learned my grandma was a talented singer and she liked to play the piano too and she is the person who got my mom interested in the piano and why my mom ended up getting me into the piano too. Wild. She told me the story of when my grandma was 11 or 12 during world war ii that apparently she was at a camp at the time the war broke out and basically some families had the means to pick up their kids from the camp to go back home but she was in a group of kids who were just stuck there. She was the eldest turns out and she just apparently took responsibility over the group and got everyone to walk home back to the city. Wow that is a pretty adult thing to do before you are even a teenager!
