Experts suggest we rebrand obesity

Does changing the name change the problem.

NO

I propose we relabel climate change as occasionally inconvenient weather, poor air quality and as a perverse incentive to make long term investments in floating homes technology.

You would rightfully label me as someone unwilling to acknowledge reality and bite the bullet on short and medium term pain of cutting back on personal consumption, economic growth and industrial output in the interest of long term viability of society as we know it.

Obesity is to the human condition what climate change is to human civilisation. It poses a threat to our viability, quality of life and compromises on our very innate capacity to interact productively with our environment.

It is a result of eating too much. It is a result of not moving mindfully enough to ensure our body has strong bones, enough muscle and all the mobility it needs to move with confidence, strength and independence sans medical intervention. There is lack of sleep, too much stress and a host of other terrible choices we make that ensures we slide more quickly down that slippery slope of bloated BMI’s and terrible health.

Changing the name achieves nothing. If you think electric vehicles, taking fewer flights and carrying cloth bags are important, eating less and cultivating physical strength are just as if not more important for the long term viability of human civilisation as we know and enjoy it.
