Pixel Perfect Picks #155 - Systems Atlas, Manufactured Sources, Friction Maxxing

Hey there 👋

Welcome to this installment of Pixel Perfect Picks. Here I'm sharing something that I heard, read, and saw. You can subscribe to this newsletter here. I'm additionally publishing a more extended essay about software development, design, and freelancing every month.

Saw Something

The AI Systems Atlas surfaced in my notes while I was writing my new blogpost High agency, low authority, because it maps exactly the line I keep drawing: where judgment lives, and where trust ends. 78 interactive plates across harnesses, evals, safety, context and memory, and coding agents, all in one visual grammar. Blue for active execution, red where trust ends, green when something is verified. You can flip the same plate between an attack and its defense, and it's honestly so much more useful than another wall of architecture essays.

Read Something

This Trellner report on manufactured sources behind AI recommendations ran 380 software categories through Perplexity and logged 7,534 citations. 59.8% of them pointed at domains outside the Tranco top 100k. Three coordinated sites, live since late 2023, had already published 215,128 machine-made "best software" pages. Some of those "vendor homepages" redirected to casinos. One homepage was literally titled "Facts & Grounding Page." I really could not make this up.

Heard Something

Nate B Jones’s How I Fight AI Brain Rot is about twenty minutes on what he calls friction maxing. He asks the same question through Codex, Grok, and Claude, plus a few people he actually trusts, then hunts for the disagreement. Not a buffet of answers. Just finding the assumption that breaks the moment the models stop agreeing.

Keep Creating Awesome Stuff ✌️

If you like these and think someone else might too, please forward it on. They can subscribe to this newsletter right at the top at https://world.hey.com/mrvn. Thank you.
