Pixel Perfect Picks #157 - Ocarina Remake, WoW Forever, iPhone Duo

Hey there 👋

Welcome to this installment of Pixel Perfect Picks. Here I'm sharing something that I heard, read, and saw. You can subscribe to this newsletter here. I'm additionally publishing a more extended essay about software development, design, and freelancing every month.

Saw Something

I stumbled on the Ocarina of Time remake last week and honestly it stopped me cold. Nintendo finally put a November 5 date on it, which means it releases right next to GTA VI, and somehow that feels completely correct for a game this big. The remake keeps the bones of the 1998 original but modernizes the look into something closer to stylized realism, with dual-stick camera control and a proper jump button instead (very needed 😂) of the old auto-ledge hops. Autumn gaming vibe fully locked in I guess. I'm already wondering how Hyrule Field is going to feel with twenty-eight years of nostalgia stacked on top of new lighting.

Read Something

And it did not stop here. Blizzard used BlizzCon to unveil World of Warcraft: Forever, a permanent new home alongside modern and Classic that sends you back to original Azeroth with a level 60 cap and room to keep growing. It launches November 4, the beta is already rolling, and access comes with a normal WoW subscription. For anyone who still carries those early WoW nights in their bones, this is the Classic Plus idea finally getting a name and a ship date. Familiar continents, new stories, and a world that is supposed to keep expanding for years. Pretty hard not to feel that pull.

Heard Something

MKBHD's iPhone 18 Pro and Duo impressions is a clean hands-on on Apple's first foldable without the keynote gloss. Closed it is a squat 5.4-inch phone, open it is a 7.6-inch almost-iPad-mini that actually fits in a pocket, and he keeps coming back to the open-close animation and how little crease you notice in normal use. He is also really honest about the weird asymmetrical cover screen, the right-hand-only dock, and how bad the under-display selfie camera still looks. At $2,000 it is not subtle, but as a first folding iPhone it looks like Apple actually cared about the feel.

Keep Creating Awesome Stuff ✌️
